Thanatos and Orpheus // Private Thread for the Win

[Thanatos is simply standing on the Yakushima beach as it rains, an open umbrella in one of his hands to keep himself from getting too soaked while still a little sick. It was only a few days after the typhoon so the area was a silent wreck of broken shells and crustaceans, the only sound against Thanatos' eardrums being the crashing of the waves against the shore. He hadn't been there too long but he was still shivering as he gazed out upon the ocean through the drops of rain. Hopefully, Orpheus would listen for once and actually come after he hears the message.]

[He doesn't hear anything past those first three words. A step back. Then another. It doesn't matter what else I've kept hidden from you, I would've told everything and then some to prevent you from seeing that. But no. The sole thing he wanted no one else to know about - especially not Thanatos - was what he looked like now.]

[You can tell in his eyes. He's... not entirely there anymore. And not from purposely distancing himself either. And still backing away in horror, now far away enough to trip on the previously-discarded umbrella and fall over because of it. At least he's not backing away, but he didn't even register that. Merely staring at the ground brokenly and in this rainstorm you almost wouldn't be able to see the tears falling from his eyes. This can't be happening this couldn't be happening it's all just some kind of horrible dream please let it be just that]

[When Thanatos sees the broken look he rushes towards Orpheus with the umbrella still in one of his hands. He then wraps one of his arms around Orpheus' waist when he gets close enough, bringing his face against Orpheus' own so their foreheads knock against one another and Thanatos breathes softly against Orpheus' lips.]

H... Hey, Orpheus! It's all right... I'm sorry, please... Please forgive me for that. I just... [And now Thanatos starts to sob as well.]

[Silence as Thanatos speaks, staring blankly at those two cerulean eyes that are suddenly so close to his own. When did you get over here? I thought you were with that butterfl--oh it's following you. Doesn't hear a word you say, but when the first years fall down from Thanatos' eyes to hit him, it earns a blink. Eyes still glazed over, still crying even though he seems completely unaware of it, and pretty much just totally broken down by this point. But why are you crying again? Sadness doesn't suit you. So have a shaking hand wiping away the tears from one of your eyes, still hollowed-out silver eyes staring, but they're slowly coming back in focus at least.]

[When Orpheus wipes the tears from one his eyes, that eye closes while otherwise his other eye remains open as Thanatos watches Orpheus. It was very good to Thanatos that his silver eyes were slowly coming back to focus. Thanatos tries to give Orpheus a smile but it comes out as more of a wibble. Oh well, at least they were both under the umbrella and Thanatos still had his other arm around Orpheus' waist. They were comfortable.]

[It was a good thing, until his eyes widen slightly and they fade back out again. What was the point of hiding it anyway? If Thanatos really wasn't lying about following him back to the Seal, then he'd find out in under a year anyway. And somewhere the remains of his logic start screaming just to TELL HIM before too much time passes and he despises you for lying again. But isn't that better? Then maybe he wouldn't follow me. He deserves to have his own life, not throw it away chasing mine...

And somewhere during this train of thought, the hand drops from his face while letting his eyes roll off to one side and stare at the ground. I can't look at you when you're like this, it just guilt trips me. Just... ten more seconds to let me find the will to stand up. Yeah. ... orz]

[Just... Continues to hold Orpheus.]

Come on... No matter what your soul looks like inside, you'll always be Orpheus to me. All right?

[Even though he doesn't really believe it, it's still reassuring to hear. More than, and he quietly moves his head to be buried in the nape of your neck, eyes quickly hardening over once out of your vision. Even if he doesn't mean it, GET OVER IT.]

[Soft breaths hitting your neck as he fumbles for the words, a hand grabbing your shoulder into a vice grip. Before suddenly everything stops. A few heartbeats of silence. "If he really means that, then... "Then a voice colder than ice answers. Right back to Assistant mode, even if the blank eyes say different.]

...

["Then I can tell him".]

I have to go back there in a year.

[And now you know firsthand what "there" he's speaking of.]

[identity profile] itsnotaleash.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
["... In a year." Orpheus has to go back 'there' in a year, where he'll be alone like that... For who knows how long...

Please hold while this sinks in and stops Thanatos' heart.

Since, when it finally does sink right in, Thanatos didn't know it was possible to feel this distraught. Tears also fell from his eyes at a steady pace and he didn't even remember starting to sob. All he knew was that he wasn't allowing Orpheus out of his clutches as his buries his face against Orpheus' neck. There were no words ... Just Thanatos' anguish.]

[Knew that was going to be the reaction. But even still it feels like someone gutted him with a knife and twisted it for good measure. And all he could really do was sit there and let him sob and stare at the dark clouds in the sky. It was better than looking down at that mess of black hair, since that would be enough to break him again.]

[But hey, happy now? Now you know what the other Thanatos said to make him start acting so weird. Totally understandable reason, ya know?]

[Slowly, Thanatos begins to compose himself so he can speak. So this was what the other Thanatos had told Orpheus...? He could understand why Orpheus would want to keep that from him, so he felt no anger at Orpheus for doing just that until now. After all, the thought of losing Orpheus alone often made himself upset. He knew that. Knowing for sure just how short their time together actually was...

It was just depressing how short a year was. Especially since Thanatos had been expecting at least fifty years with Orpheus. Still... Even through all of his misery right now, he was glad Orpheus told him the time frame. More than glad, as his mind was already beginning to run with ways of stopping this from occurring to Orpheus. To be honest he had already had a plan to save Orpheus' soul from ceasing to exist... Now, he just knew he needed to kick this plan into gear and work at it before it was too late. He only had a year what he had first thought he could do in fifty, after all. Talk about cram school.]

Thank you...

['For trusting me enough to tell me. I won't let you down, Orpheus.' Thanatos may still be sobbing against Orpheus' neck but there was a new glow about him and it wasn't from that butterfly still flitting about the two. He wasn't going to just give up on his best friend even when it felt like there was no hope. Thanatos was going to only fight harder from now on. No matter what your soul looks like... It was going to be brought to justice. An unsaid promise that was stronger than any words could put.]
