Thanatos and Shouko // Private Thread for the Win

[Thanatos is outside Shouko's room at the dorms. He simply stands there for a moment before he takes a deep breath and finally knocks.] Hey, Shouko? It's me - Thanatos!

[ Her attention diverted from the book she's reading, Shouko turns towards the door, blinking. After a moment of consideration, she makes a mark on the page and closes the book, setting it on the table.

The door creaks open and she peers at the figure just outside. ]

Hey, Thanatos.

[ She smiles. ]

[Smiles in return.] I hope I'm not intruding on anything important right now. It hasn't been too long since your rescue so I know you'll be needing a lot of rest... Still, I wanted to check up on you.

No you're not. Come in.

[ She holds the door open and steps to the side to allow him entrance. ]

[Walks inside of her dorm room once she allows him to.] You're welcome. I'm glad to see you're doing all right.

There's nothing to exert myself with anyway.

[ She closes the door behind him. ]

Would you like something to drink?

[Finds an armchair so he can sit down.] Sure! What do you have?

Um... not much at all. I have a few cans of soda, orange juice, and water.

Okay. Hang on a sec.

[ She disappears into the kitchen and returns shortly after with two cans of soda, handing one to Thanatos as she sits down on the chair in front of his. ]

How are you?

Thanks! [Takes the soda and cracks the top open.]

Other than having to explain a lot of information, I've been all right.

... Ah, you mean... about the whole Shadow thing?

Yeah, that's right. You weren't the only one who didn't know I was a Shadow.

[ A slow nod as she sips her soda in silence. ]

It explains how you're able to see clearly, I guess.

It does a little... Though, Orpheus doesn't have a lot of trouble seeing in the fog either and I know that he's not a Shadow.

Hmm. That's strange, I notice you two were the only ones who didn't need glasses.

But... ah, how did it go? The explanation, I mean.

It went a lot better than I expected it would, to be honest ... It was still tough, though... A lot had to be told so it would make sense!

Would you mind giving me an explanation as well?

I wouldn't mind. Though it's a long story if I start from the beginning, exactly... So how about you ask me questions? I'll answer them truthfully, that I can promise to you.

If you're a shadow, then... why are you so much like a human? You said that shadows were negative feelings manifesting in a physical form... yet I don't think you're negative at all.

Well, I'm not a normal Shadow. I used to be a mindless one, however I escaped from where I was being kept and I did a lot of damage... Even falling apart I was still too dangerous to defeat, and I was sealed away in a human child for ten years. One day I finally awoke inside of him, though I was an incomplete Shadow... So without knowing it I led him to collect the Shadows that I lost that were a part of me. Meanwhile, the time I spent inside of his subconscious allowed me to become his friend and so I began to pick up his human emotions.

When I finally became complete, I was able to leave his body to become who I am now. A Shadow with its own conscious. That's why I'm so human...

So... you only did those things because you didn't have a conscious mind, right? Not intentionally?

That's right. I have no desire to cause damage to anyone now.

[He blushes a little.] T-Thank you, Shouko. I'm glad you can still trust me even though I'm a Shadow.

Well, you haven't done anything to make me think otherwise. Even if you're a shadow, I can't hate you. All those things you've done are in the past, and as long as they don't repeat, there's no reason why we can't be friends.
