Thanatos and Orpheus // Private Thread for the Win

[Thanatos can be found in the dorm room asleep on a pile of ancient tomes. There are a whole bunch of them scattered about his sleeping person and even a few across the room, most of those tomes open or bent from obvious abuse. Seems when they're useless, Thanatos throws them aside in frustration before preying on the next. It doesn't help most of them are in languages Thanatos doesn't know and so he outright can't use them in his sudden quest for research. Who knows how long he has been at this... It doesn't seem like he'll be asleep like that for any much longer either since he's going through all the signs he's in one of his nightmares.]

... Oh. [Proceeds to just set his face back against Orpheus' chest.]

[Looks up enough to stare at. That depressed expression again... Well, what good at my job would I be if I can't even do something as simple as this? Bring it on, book.]

I can translate it.

[identity profile] itsnotaleash.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
You can? [Looks down at the book from his spot against Orpheus' chest. He smiles and gives his Assistant a squeeze around the middle.] All right, I'll help you! ...What do I have to do?
clockstopped: (Angry wasps?)

[personal profile] clockstopped 2009-05-04 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Most likely. [Gah, my lungs. I need those for things. But you're smiling again, so... Well, it's not like breathing is mandatory anymore.] See if there's any information on the language itself... If not, then I'll have to work from scratch.

[identity profile] itsnotaleash.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
That's one of the really ancient books I was able to pick up from that store... I have no idea what language it could even be.
clockstopped: (Just throw a roll of tape in the garbage)

[personal profile] clockstopped 2009-05-04 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Did they have anything else with this writing or did you not ask?

[identity profile] itsnotaleash.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
There are a few other books in that writing, however, most of them are on the floor somewhere after I threw them because I couldn't understand them...
clockstopped: (You are coming to a sad realization)

[personal profile] clockstopped 2009-05-04 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
... [Headpat. That'll do, Owldog.] Cross-reference might work just as well.

Can you find all of the ones you couldn't understand?

[identity profile] itsnotaleash.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can find them for you. [Have a nuzzle in return for that headpat. Also, gives Orpheus another squeeze before he releases his hold and moves off of the bed to collect those books he threw about the dorm room. This may take awhile... However, he does find them all and stacks them next to Orpheus.]
clockstopped: (Max Velocity to Aftershock)

[Yay, you're in a better mood. Now time to put that maxed Academics stat to work. Sits up a bit straighter, back to flipping the pages randomly. No other information about it exists, so... first need to define the writing system before trying to decode the characters themse--]

[Train of thought derailed, only now by a loud thud and the entire bed's weight shifting to one side. Looking at the source of the disturbance and-... Stare. That... is a large pile of tomes. Even compared with all of the other ones randomly stacked randomly about the room. Cue leaning to one side to look around the stack, expression something between a glare and... mild amazement. Mostly the latter.]

You need to stop throwing things when you're frustrated.

[identity profile] itsnotaleash.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
I do? S-Sorry, Orpheus. That stack doesn't even include all of the books I knocked over when I flipped one of the tables...
clockstopped: (Begone vile apparition!)

[personal profile] clockstopped 2009-05-04 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
You...

[You flipped one of the tables. ... Facepalm into forever. Splitting the huge stack into two piles, resting the one he was reading on the shorter one. Now excuse us as we disappear into the jungle of book stacks to clean up the mess you've made. Siiiiigh.]

[identity profile] itsnotaleash.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, I'll help you - [Moves to help Orpheus clean up the various books all over the floor of their dorm room. Wait, that reminds him... He should probably tell Orpheus the kittens have been playing on all of the tomes while he was reading a few. He hasn't even seen one of them in awhile so they must be hidden in the mess.]

... Oh, Orpheus?
clockstopped: (Erebus ate my face)

[personal profile] clockstopped 2009-05-04 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
You don't... [Have to help? Too late, he's already helping. Sigh sir. But in that short interval between his offer and his name being called afterwards, you have an assistant leaning back to stare at the derpcase, a stack of ten-or-so books balanced easily on each hand.]

What is i--! [KITTEN'D! Fell off from one of the book towers most likely, and found it's landing spot on your Assistant's head. ... Mews cutely. Clearly a Just As Planned moment.] ... You lost the cats?

[identity profile] itsnotaleash.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
... [Can't help it - He laughs.] Y-Yeah, I did. You found one!

[identity profile] itsnotaleash.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Rushes towards Orpheus and lifts the kitten off of his face. It mewls and Thanatos gives it some warm cuddles.] So adorable... Now, where are your brothers and sisters? They must be on the stacks as well...
clockstopped: (Add that to the wiki page about goats)

[personal profile] clockstopped 2009-05-04 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Have fun finding them. [Then right back to trying to bring order to this horrible chaos you've brought in here yet again. As is the job of an assistant, whether it be law firms, corporate superpowers, or a Fusionist-in-training's workhorse. Hmm... I wonder if Shura would get mad if we turned the closet into a pocket dimension.]

[identity profile] itsnotaleash.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I will. Our kittens sure know how to hide! [Still holding the one kitten, Thanatos goes on an adventure to find the various other kittens lost in the mess of books. At the same time, he's also helping Orpheus organize. Well, he's trying to help organize at least. While all of the books are old, a few are actually in a language Thanatos can understand, which is why those ones aren't thrown about like the rest of the books were. Some books even show signs that Thanatos took the time to read through them and leave bookmarks so he can go back and reference them when he needs to. ... That pocket dimension in the closet sounds like a great way to store all of these tomes.

... Those kittens sure know how to hide from Death well. Until he finds a few behind a particularly large stack of tomes and one even under an open, upside down book.]
clockstopped: (yes mom of course mom whatever mom)

[personal profile] clockstopped 2009-05-06 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
[If there's a reaction to the books with the bookmarks in them, it's only keeping them to the side for easier access. You're capable of retaining focus when you're actually motivated to do so. If only you had that same attention span towards your job. So have that pile of already-read books dropped one one of the uncovered desks, then back into the forest of books.]

[For a few seconds at least. Have another kitten dropped on said pile in question. Keep them out of the way, damnit.]

[identity profile] itsnotaleash.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Keeps the kittens all in one pile as Orpheus cleans up the forest of books there in the one room. This is a harder job than it sounds since the kittens keep mewling and trying to escape from the pile to run amok around the mess. A few of the fuzzy kitten butts flee towards Orpheus while he's lifting a particularly large amount of books in his arms. Oh shi-]

A-ah! Come back!

[Cue Thanatos moving fast to get the kittens before they get to Orpheus.]
