Thanatos and Orpheus // Private Thread for the Win

[When the pageant was over, Thanatos didn't bother to stick around any longer than he had to. Ameno-Sagiri's words still boomed in the back of his conscious as if the other Shadow was still right there. To Thanatos, anything that was once familiar made no sense. Just when he finally began to accept he was Death... More had to happen that would cause him to feel uncomfortable about his existence. Was his heart really nothing more than just a lie? He had been so happy at the pageant. Yet, it seems happiness was only temporary when you were Death incarnate. So here Thanatos was, all alone, with a serving of unagi don in his hands to try and settle his stomach. Unfortunately, the sweet taste of eel wasn't making him feel any better. A glance outside then made him feel even worse. The fog was still in sight.]

... Lies hurt just as much as the truth? Yeah, right.

You should... I was always there in return for your whole world... I was a leech on your soul. I know I didn't do any of that on purpose... Yet, that's what it comes down to. Your life became mine!

[At first he winces, waiting for the scarf around his neck to tighten. Instead he watches Orpheus worriedly.] ... I just ... Want to make it up to you.

[He did? I'll kill him for this I'll kill him buts it goes unsaid as there's suddenly tits smish'd against your arm and your neck in a death vice from both arms around it and a face buried in your shoulder as warm tears go about staining your suit. RYOJI YOU IDIOT SO MAD IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY ;;] You don't have anything to make up for to me...

[Assistant is crying! Also, can't breathe. Though, more importantly, ASSISTANT IS CRYING. Shifts a bit to wrap his own arms around Orpheus' waist and holds onto him as tight as possible.] That's not true... I owe you everything...!

[That slight shift is enough to save your trachea from any further damage, even though he's still latched onto like life-support. And can't say anything, doesn't trust himself to, just a harsh shaking of his head into your shoulder while the rest of his form shakes with silent tears.]

[Continues to clutch onto Orpheus. Thanatos settles his cheek against the soft blue hair as Orpheus moves his head back and forth. His own tears flow, but they're also silent even as droplets fall from his face. What could he say now? All he could do was act. He had to find a way so neither of them would be alone. After all... Without his Other... His 'fake' heart would always hurt. He remains still for awhile to let Orpheus sob.]

It's true... Thank you, Orpheus.

[clockstopped]

[What do you even say to that? 'Cause he can't think of anything. One last weak head-shake in response before just staying in his clung-to position until he could drudge up the will to get his mask back up and running. He's gonna try avoiding you for the rest of the week after this s-sob.]

[His hand finds his way into Orpheus' hair. Now he's getting preened by a Thanatos.] Come on... I'll do what I can for you.

[At least the shaking stopped, even though the death grip hasn't. If anything, it got worse at the preening. Feels odd being the one doing the clinging for once, swapped positions etc. Though it's probably better that way seeing as his face is hidden. And if the voice that sounds like half of its soul was siphoned out is any indication, he probably looks like hell.]

Why? It's already set in stone... You shouldn't waste that effort on futility.

[Orpheus' hair is still being preened as Thanatos speaks.]

Fighting Nyx was a futility. Yet, here we are. I know there must be a way ... To save you.

[Wants to protest. Something, anything, because he knows he's just throwing himself at false hopes again, but his voice rebels and only gives a barely audible "I" in response before cracking one last time. Grip loosening, all movement ceasing, eyes closed and listening to a soft heartbeat he could never have again.]

[One beat. Then another. One more. And a voice so quiet it's almost nonexistent as to not disturb that soft rhythm in his ears.] No. It's my responsibility and mine alone... I won't have anyone help me run from it.

[Thanatos felt miserable. He would do almost anything to give Orpheus' back a living, breathing and heart beating body! This body with its heart should have been Orpheus' in the first place. Ameno-Sagiri was right... He was a cruel lie. Why should a Shadow have a heart when it clearly belongs to a human?]

Why do you have to do everything alone? You don't deserve to be alone. I want to help you...

[Goes quiet again, since the answer of "I don't want anyone else to suffer like I do" probably wouldn't yield the best results. Another reason another reason..... none forthcoming. And it's already been a long enough silence where any answer would seem false anyway. o-orz. At least not saying anything isn't unusual.]

[Grabs by the shoulders and shoves back to hold him down on the bench. Why yes, he does look like hell now, but that glare is still enough to promise a hundred horrible deaths if you don't start listening.]

[Just kind of lets this happen. Looks straight up at Orpheus.] ... Then what can I do? I can't just do nothing for you!

For me, it is. [Have another hug, but not the LOL SPINE BREAKING from before, and simply rests his chin atop the other's head before burrying his face in his hair. Stop making me worry about you damnit.]

... Do you know how long you have? Before I have to lose you... [Cuddles into as close as possible. Have some soft whimpers as well.]

[Strokes his hair absently while he starts wibbling again, somewhere in the back of his mind realizing how easily their position could be mistranslated by onlookers. Though either doesn't care or don't notice, too busy trying to comfort him while speaking softly.]

I don't know exactly... however long I would have lived for normally. At least another fifty for sure...

[Rubs his face against Orpheus' chest with a sniff. Thanatos even tries to smile, though it's a little weak.]

So we have time to enjoy our lives together. Right?
